To ensure success for all students, the Iowa Staff Development Council (ISDC) will work in partnership with others to define, refine, and advocate best staff development practices.

WE BELIEVE . . .

  • The ultimate purpose of quality staff development is the continuous improvement of student learning.
  • Quality staff development provides individual and organizational growth that propels the system toward its vision.
  • Quality staff development is a vital norm found in schools that are continually improving.
  • Each educator has an ethical responsibility to improve professional effectiveness through life long learning.
  • Quality staff development uses a research base in context, process, and content to continually define and refine best practices.
  • Quality staff development decisions are driven by ongoing assessments of needs, goals, and progress.
  • Quality staff developers systematically enable others to improve.
  • Quality staff development is supported with adequate resources.

Goals

1. Advocate a common voice for professional development in the state of Iowa.

2. Build an understanding of how districts and other organizations in the state of Iowa with professional development can design and support high quality professional learning by applying the NSDC Standards.
